Reminding Few the Duties and Oath The Chetwode Credo

The missing love, care, and bonding among ourselves is a silent threat we rarely acknowledge especially within the Armed Forces, where unity has always been our greatest strength.

We speak of strategy, weapons, and preparedness. We train for external threats. Yet, somewhere along the way, we seem to be overlooking something far more fundamental the very spirit that binds us together.

The Chetwode Credo is not merely a ceremonial oath recited at commissioning. It is the moral compass of a soldier’s life:

“The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time.

The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next.

Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.”

But can this ethos truly survive without empathy, trust, and mutual respect within our own ranks?

When camaraderie weakens, when officers and men feel unheard or unsupported, when personal egos overshadow collective purpose then the foundation of military strength quietly erodes. Not by the enemy, but from within.

It is time to introspect.

To reconnect with the very essence of soldiering.

To restore the culture of mentorship, brotherhood, and unwavering support.

Because in the end, no formation, no unit, no force can remain strong if its people feel alone.

Let us remind ourselves strength is not just in arms, but in unity of hearts and minds.
