War: The Price of Ego and the Cry of Humanity

Updated: 2 days ago

War has never been a solution. It has always been a spectacle of power, a contest of egos, and a theatre where ordinary human beings pay the ultimate price for the ambitions of a few. History bears testimony that while wars may redraw borders, they irreparably scar humanity.

Lessons from the Old Wars

The devastation of the shattered Europe and wiped out millions of young lives in trenches soaked with blood. It was called “the war to end all wars,” yet it only laid the foundation for further catastrophe.

Then came the unimaginable horror of . Cities were flattened, economies destroyed, and over 70 million people perished. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain stark reminders that when science serves war, humanity suffers. The Holocaust exposed how hatred, when institutionalized, becomes annihilation.

The wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria  each justified in the language of security, liberation, or retaliation  left behind broken nations, traumatized generations, and questions that remain unanswered.

History proves one consistent truth: wars do not produce lasting peace; they produce graves, widows, orphans, and bitterness that fuels future conflicts.

The Present: Ukraine–Russia and West Asia

Today, the conflict between and has turned cities into rubble and displaced millions. Families are separated, children grow up amid sirens, and infrastructure built over decades is reduced to dust within minutes.

In West Asia, escalating tensions between and , alongside the involvement of the , have created a volatile atmosphere that threatens regional and global stability. Every missile launched carries not just explosives but also the possibility of widening the conflict.

In every theatre of war, the same pattern repeats: children buried under debris, hospitals overwhelmed, schools reduced to ashes. The faces of war are not political leaders; they are mothers clutching lifeless bodies and fathers searching through ruins.

The Silence of Global Institutions

The was formed after World War II with a noble purpose  to prevent such devastation from ever recurring. Yet, in many ongoing conflicts, its voice appears restrained, its resolutions ineffective, and its interventions limited by geopolitical vetoes and power politics.

When school children die in bombings and civilian neighbourhoods are targeted, humanity expects a united, firm response. Silence or selective outrage  weakens global moral authority. If international institutions fail to safeguard the innocent, their relevance will increasingly be questioned.

The End Result: Ego Satisfaction?

What ultimately is achieved through war? A temporary claim of victory? A change in territorial control? A political narrative of strength?

Behind every proclamation of triumph lies immeasurable human loss. Ego satisfaction cannot rebuild shattered limbs, restore mental health, or bring back the dead. No victory parade compensates for a child who will never return home.

Why India Must Remain Principled and Neutral

With its civilizational ethos rooted in “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”  the world is one family  carries a moral responsibility to stand for peace. Supporting any nation involved in war risks entanglement in geopolitical rivalries and compromises our long-standing policy of strategic autonomy.

India’s strength lies not in choosing sides in foreign wars, but in advocating dialogue, ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and diplomatic solutions. As a rising global power and the voice of the Global South, India must champion negotiation over confrontation.

War abroad also has economic consequences at home  rising fuel prices, disrupted supply chains, inflation, and security concerns. The burden of war does not remain confined to borders; it travels across oceans.

Social Media: Fuel to the Fire

Equally concerning is the role of those who instigate hatred and glorify violence on social media. From the comfort of their homes, some individuals cheer destruction, spread misinformation, and provoke emotions without understanding the human cost.

War is not a video game. It is not a trending hashtag. Every reckless post that incites hatred contributes to polarization and justifies aggression. Freedom of speech carries responsibility. Digital platforms must not become battlegrounds where humanity is the casualty.

Humanity Must Prevail

Peace is not weakness. Dialogue is not surrender. Compassion is not compromise.
The world stands at a crossroads where nuclear capabilities, cyber warfare, and artificial intelligence have amplified the destructive potential beyond imagination. Another global war would not have winners only survivors.
Let us remember that before we are citizens of nations, we are human beings. No flag is more valuable than a child’s life. No border is worth more than collective humanity.

The call of the hour is clear: ceasefires, negotiations, humanitarian corridors, accountability for war crimes, and strengthening of international law.
History will judge not the power of our weapons, but the depth of our wisdom.

War satisfies ego; peace safeguards civilization.
